lakeside 1The Lakeside Shopping centre in West Thurrock gave its shoppers a pleasant surprise back in August with its very own urban beach.

Featuring deckchairs, sand art, buckets and spades and a bespoke face in the hole, the Lakeside visitors experienced a real taste of the seaside.

A great beach at a great shopping centre.

Newham’s own summer beach

Sep 16, 2013   //   by Steph   //   Beach Builds, Blog, Temporary Beach Build, Urban Pop Up Beaches  //  No Comments

Newham in East London, the main host borough of the London Olympics in 2012 ,also gave its young and diverse inhabitants their very own temporary sandy beach for the summer.

We built the beach by the Docklands so that with the view of the river beach goers could really believe they were ‘beside the seaside’.

The beach became the base for many of the boroughs summer events including the Waterfront Festival, Beach Volleyball, Live music, Punch and Judy and Big screen Opera. The beach has proved so popular they have already booked for next year.

Beach Events look forward to coming back!

Beach events created an awesome temporary urban beach in the middle of a field at the iconic Isle of Wight Festival in June 2013.

With an authentic beach bar serving original cocktails and beach stage showcasing  up and coming new bands such as The Waylayers and The Loveable Rogues, we catered for thousands of happy festival goers under sunny skies in Penny Lane.

Highlights included Leroy Thornhill from The Prodigy’s DJ set on the Saturday night as the fire jugglers performed. The huge crowds that appeared for The Loveable Rogues who gave a typically cheeky and personal performance, and the highly addictive Smokin Apple Pie cocktail!

Oh and the marriage proposal on stage, congratulations to the loved-up couple from Notts.

Costa Blanca and Jet 2 Urban Beach

Jul 25, 2013   //   by Steph   //   Beach Builds, Blog, Sponsorship Activation, Temporary Beach Build  //  No Comments

Back in May, Beach Events were asked to help the Spanish Tourist board to promote the sunny resort of Costa Blanca and Jet2 in Glasgow.

We built them an urban beach in the city centre with a Jet 2 check-in booth and provided promotional staff to engage with the public and talk about the highlights of Costa Blanca as a holiday destination.

The adults and children of Glasgow loved finding a beach in the middle of the city and plenty chose the Costa Blanca for their next holiday.

Waylayers at Life’s a Beach

Jun 12, 2013   //   by Steph   //   Beach Entertainments, Beach Events, Blog, Festival Beaches  //  No Comments

Lifes a Beach are buzzing to have the Waylayers on the beach stage on Saturday at 6. Check out the best Canadian online casinos list before this wonderful event!

Waylayers consist of Harry Lee (vocals, synths), Dave Norman (bass) and Joe Andrew  (guitar). Together they create music that has been described as ‘atmospheric pop’. Fusing elements of electronica and indie-rock, they create the characteristic Waylayers’ sound.

AVB-002_475After touring Europe and spending some time away in the studio honing and perfecting their craft, East London trio Waylayers are back with their new 6 track EP entitled ‘Fault Lines’ due in June 2013 , recorded at Abbey Road. The first track ‘S.O.S’ has been described in the press as “a futuristic pop triumph” whilst ‘Magnets’ (the bonus track) is epically euphoric; bathed in a fresh pop sensibility and packed full of synths and catchy hooks. The videos for both tracks were directed by Alex Brown, who has worked with the likes of The Maccabees, Klaxons, La Roux and James Blake.

The band were chosen as Steve Lamacq’s ‘Band of the Week’ recently  on his BBC 6 Music show and were played for consecutive weeks on Dermot O’Leary’s BBC Radio 2 show , as well as receiving rave reviews from the mainstream national music press and blogs. The boys have also been featured on the official Maximo Park remix EP along with Dutch Uncles with their reworking of ‘The National Health’ and their official Mikill Pane remix ‘The Chairman of the Bored’ was featured on his latest EP release (Mercury/Universal). Waylayers‘ previous single ‘Fires’, appeared on the Kitsuné Maison 10 compilation and was produced by Ewan Pearson (Delphic).

Loveable Rogues at Life’s a Beach

Jun 12, 2013   //   by Steph   //   Beach Entertainments, Beach Events, Blog, Festival Beaches  //  No Comments

Loveable Rogues

Lifes a Beach are lucky to have the Loveable Rogues on the beach stage on Thursday at 8pm. So grab a luminous cocktail and a sand space  to watch ‘Britains Got Talents’ most memorable performers.

Cheeky chappies Loveable Rogues charmed the Britain’s Got Talent audience – and judges – with their witty self-penned song “Lovesick” during the audition stage. The feel-good tune sent them through to the next round and caused a million crushes all over the country. They came back even stronger in the Semi Finals – singing the stupendously catchy song once more, and sailing through to the BGT Final.

Life’s a Beach 2013

IOW-Festival_beach_build

The countdown has begun, Life’s a beach 2013 at the Isle of Wight Festival kicks off in 6 days at 4pm. Bigger and better than before with a larger stage and plenty of high profile acts aswell as a new sheltered area (just in case!). The golden sands of beautiful Bembridge beach have been shipped in to create the largest ever temporary urban beach at a major music festival.

Hosting a cocktail bar, barbecue, coffee station, massage, alternative face painting, fire jugglers, sand sculptures, live bands and D.J’s, this year promises to beat the rest.

For the first time there is now an official IOW Festival app providing festival goers with line ups, maps and other important info.

Thursday on the beach sees guest and house D.J’s playing beach vibes followed by Kings of Vocals, Tich, Lovable Rogues then Ibiza Club Classics with Damian Walsh to really get the party started.

The sun always shines at Lifes a Beach so bring your flip flops and bucket and spade and experience a new dimension of the awe-inspiring IOW Festival.

We all dream of beaches, we bring them to life …

Olympic Legacy Beaches

BarnElms_Beach

Beach Events and the London Olympic Legacy Beaches.

Beach Events are proud to have been chosen to build 5 Olympic legacy Sand Sport Courts in   and around London, utilising the sand from the Olympic Beach Volleyball Court at Horse guard Parade directly after the amazing London 2012 games.

5000 tonnes of sand were used to create the Olympic courts, which has been distributed throughout London to create sand Sports Facilities for the public in St Albans, Eltham, Redbridge, Barnes and Brentwood. This is to create a legacy of the Olympics by encouraging a new generation to experience sand sports from beach volleyball to beach soccer. (Basically any sport can be played on sand but it is genuinely much more strenuous!).

Beach Events have now designed, created and delivered 5 multi use sand spaces in partnership with Volleyball England for the Olympic 2012 legacy project.

  • St Albans have regenerated an existing grass area in Verulamium Park into a multi use sand sport court.
  • The Samuel Montague Youth Club in Eltam has converted an old 5 a side football pitch into a sand sports court.
  • The Borough of Redbridge has converted an old and dis-used Bowling Green into an urban beach.
  • The Barn Elms Sports Centre in Barnes has converted 4 former tennis courts into a multi use sand facility and the Brentwood Leisure Centre Sand Court has just been completed on an adjacent sports field.

These new builds are in addition to the Olympic legacy work started in 2011 (after the Olympic test events) when we built London’s first permanent sports beach at the Score Centre, in Leyton , converting another old and unused bowling green. Sand sports are here to stay and are a great way to get fit, get focused and socialise in the fresh air, and although we cant enjoy the climate of Tahiti, we can dream as we wiggle our toes in the sand!
