Market Square beach
Wellingborough Town Centre’s seaside extravaganza
The town might be more than 70 miles from the nearest beach, but for three weeks in August this summer the BID’s ever popular Beach was built on the Market Square.
The beach opened on 6 August and ran until 27 August from 10am until 4pm and was even bigger and better than previous years.
As well as a lovely sandy beach with buckets and spades for the children, deckchairs for the parents and music for all, there was a Helter Skelter and aqua boats and swing boats, Punch & Judy shows, a photo wall, cake sales, tombola and more!
All in all, a beach designed to make sandy young visitors very happy!

SAMBA music and carnival fever made its way to the borough of Solihull this summer at Touchwood Shopping Centres “Touch of Rio” themed beach.
Lucy Burnett, Marketing Manager at Touchwood, said: “Touchwood’s touch of Rio was the perfect way for guests to celebrate the Olympics, and at the same time take advantage of enjoying a summer holiday experience without having to travel”

Swansea Shopping Centre Beach
The rain hasn’t stopped people in Swansea having fun on the beach – thanks to the Quadrant Shopping Centre.
An eight metre by four metre stretch of golden sand has appeared at the centre and children have been making the most of it this week even as the skies outside have darkened.
Among those having a great time building sandcastles on the indoor beach have been cousins Jake, four, and Ellis Richards, two, who were there with their grandmother, Gloria Richards, from Fforestfach, Swansea.
She said: “They’re having a lovely time and really enjoying it. There are loads here, about 20 little ones all playing in the sand.
It’s a fabulous beach. We didn’t know it was here but as soon as they saw it they wanted to play and they’ve been here for an hour now having lots of fun.”
Sarah Temple, from Swansea’s Penlan, has been there this week with her son Danny, eight, and her niece and nephew, Taylor, eight, and Rowan, nearly two. She said: “It was nice to have a coffee in peace today while they were busy in the sand.
“They’re really enjoying themselves making sandcastles. It’s perfect for them and we’ll definitely be coming back.”
Quadrant Shopping Centre deputy manager Lindy Emms said of the new arrival: “The weather has been a bit miserable outside but in here the children have been having a lovely time.
“We supplied plenty of buckets and spades and they’ve done the rest and Thorntons are on hand with ice creams as well so the seaside has well and truly arrived at the Quadrant Shopping Centre in Swansea.”
The indoor beach has been provided by Beach Events who were involved in installing the 2012 London Olympics Beach Volleyball courts.
And the company has built “urban beaches” all over the country.

Watford Big Beach
Taken from the Watford Observer- Beach build and Concessions delivered by Beach Events
Watford town centre is set to be transformed into a big beach for a week, with 100 tonnes of real sand to be set around the pond in The Parade.
The free beach – measuring 20 metres long by 15 metres wide – for residents and visitors to relax on as if they are at the seaside.
Elected Mayor of Watford Dorothy Thornhill said: “This beach is going to be great fun for everyone. Why go all the way to the seaside when we are going to bring the beach here? You can go to some brilliant shops, restaurants, bars and nightclubs as well when you visit our beach in Watford.
“Plus we’re going to have a whole range of free activities going on every day at the Big Beach – from a children’s pirate party to a 40-piece brass band. Everyone’s welcome to join in, and they’re for all ages. Plus there will be beach huts and beach food here.”
The Big Beach will run from Saturday, July 25, to Sunday, August 2, staying open from 9am to 9pm every day. It is one of a series of major community experiences the council is staging as part of the Big Events series to celebrate its refurbishment of The Parade.
